Liverpool's King David High School's annual speech night on Monday held bittersweet celebrations. A minute's silence remembered pupils Oliver King and Tilly Rosenblatt who died separately since the school's last annual prize event.

But the prestigious night at the city centre Liverpool Philharmonic Hall gave parents a first glimpse, via a video tour, of the new £25 million campus due to open later this year.

Deputy headteacher Gil Bourgade said: "On the one hand we celebrated all the successes of the school, but remembered it had been a difficult year."

Top achievers included Jewish studies prize winners Melissa Cantor and Lauren Miller. Lauren also received modern Hebrew and food technology prizes.
