Photographic memories of LJCC volunteer

articlemain

Sir Nicholas Hytner, Grayson Perry, Howard Jacobson, Zoe Wanamaker and Lord Bragg are among celebrity London Jewish Cultural Centre speakers captured on camera by Adrian Dell since LJCC moved to Ivy House in 2005.

To mark the 10-year anniversary, some of Dr Dell's favourite portraits will be exhibited from next Monday in the café of the Golders Green centre.

Dr Dell honed his picture-taking skills with Hampstead Photographic Society after his retirement from the NHS in 2000. The Hampstead Garden Suburb resident recalled that when LJCC placed an advertisement for a photographer, "I was the only person who applied".

He has never charged for his services and his contribution was recognised by the recent award of honorary life membership. Chief executive Louise Jacobs said: "Adrian's professionalism and the quality of his pictures have proved a real asset. We are very grateful for his continuing commitment."

Dr Dell said that one of his favourite photos was of Steven Isserlis with his cello.

"It shows so much emotion and caring," he explained. "It tells you so much about him."
