More than 200 parents packed a meeting at Mill Hill Synagogue on Monday to support plans for new Jewish school in the area.

Planning group chair Adam Dawson outlined hopes of opening a new school with entry at nursery and reception in September 2011. "The case for a new Jewish primary school in Mill Hill can be proved beyond any doubt."

The Jewish Leadership Council says there is a deficiency of at least 60 Jewish primary places in north-west London. Several parents unable to secure places for their children at the Rosh Pinah Primary School in nearby Edgware complained to Barnet Council.

Mr Dawson said the proposed new school would be under the auspices of the Office of the Chief Rabbi and reflect the character of the local community.
