Recognising that mothers of seriously ill children have little time for pampering, Camp Simcha held its inaugural spa day.
Thirty mums attended the event, hosted by a Camp Simcha supporter, enjoying a range of free treatments from 14 therapists, as well as yoga and water aerobics. The charity also took care of the childcare arrangements.
“This was a chance for Camp Simcha mums to spend much needed time on themselves, which is so rarely possible,” said family liaison officer Samantha Charles, one of the event’s main co-ordinators.
“Many found it difficult to articulate just how beneficial the day had been because most days their own needs do not even get a look in.”
Among the mums was Amanda Whitely, who has a two-year-old with cystic fibrosis. She said that apart from being “a wonderful form of escapism”, the day was “a worthwhile opportunity to connect with other mothers. I hope to continue this sharing.”
