Edgware Reform congregant Jean Gaffin has been presented with a new national healthcare award at a Commons ceremony.

The award — launched by campaign groups Pain UK and the Chronic Pain Policy Coalition — recognises Mrs Gaffin’s work with Arthritis Care and the British Pain Society on behalf of sufferers of chronic pain. The sponsoring groups hope it will both raise awareness of the issue and influence debate in Parliament and the NHS.

Presenting the award to the Mill Hill resident, MP Barry Sheerman said: “For decades she has worked tirelessly to campaign on vital issues in public policy and her campaigning for better treatment of pain and support for those suffering it has been crucial in improving the lives of so many people.”

“Proud and humbled” to receive the award, Mrs Gaffin called for “people and organisations to continue to work together” to ensure that treatment of chronic pain was improved across the healthcare spectrum.
