Crouch End Chavurah has welcomed a well-travelled Sefer Torah.

Canadian-born sofer (scribe) Avielah Barclay joined the community on Shabbat to share the story of the "Wandering Torah". Believed to have been written more than 100 years ago, it is passed on loan to congregations unable to afford their own scroll.

It was last used by the Danish community from which Crouch End's Rabbi Sandra Kviat originates.

"We are honoured to be the latest recipients of this most special of scrolls," Rabbi Kviat said. "Avielah's talk was fascinating and everyone at Crouch End hopes she will return to continue educating us."
