BDO Stoy Hayward partner Andrew Viner is Norwood’s new treasurer, overseeing a recession-trimmed £33 million budget. He succeeds Russell Tenzer, who held the post for 13 years.

Mr Viner, 38, will operate alongside the charity’s corporate services director, Philip Bunt, and chair Norwood’s corporate services committee.

He pledged that in a “deepening recession, the trustees will take whatever steps are necessary so Norwood can continue to provide essential support for Jewish children, families and adults with disadvantage or learning disabilities”.

Trustees had allowed for a drop in voluntary income when approving the current budget. “We anticipate that this may fall further and we will reflect this in our budget for 2009/10. We are continuing to keep spending under very tight control and are reducing costs wherever possible.”

The specialist in the technology, media and telecoms sectors has also worked for Arthur Andersen and KPMG. A Mill Hill Synagogue congregant, his footballing allegiance to Liverpool reflects a Chester upbringing and other sporting interests are cycling, skiing and golf.
