Three hundred guests mingled with Norwood residents during an art showcase at the Halcyon Gallery in Mayfair last Thursday evening.

The 170 pieces of art, from canvasses to glasswork, were created by adult residents and sold to raise more than £22,000 for the charity’s social enterprise work, which encourages residents to create and sell more art.

Andrew Rammell, 27, created a glass piece because he “wanted to work on something a little more challenging”. Mr Rammell was subsequently commissioned to make a bespoke piece for Nikki and Simon Kaye, Norwood supporters for more than 10 years.

“We love his art but it’s all gone. After talking to Andrew, we’ve made a connection and want to have something of his,” said Mrs Kaye.

Rachelle Adler, who lives at the Norwood home in Hendon, said: “It makes me so happy to see my artwork in the gallery. I love doing art as it’s something I have achieved myself.”

Caroline Arnold, the chair of Norwood’s art show committee, said: “For many whose art was exhibited, working and concentrating for any period of time is extremely difficult, so it is a tribute both to the artists and the staff who support them that we have been able to produce a show of such volume and high quality of work.”

Gary Sacks, trustee and fundraising chair of Norwood, said the event served to promote “our social enterprise work. We’re helping produce art and put the money back in for residents to develop more skills and training.”
Russell Green, managing director of the Halcyon Gallery, said the quality of work was “incredible — I bought several pieces myself.”
