Norwood seeks help in fighting the '10 plagues'

articlemain

Offering a modern slant on the Pesach story, Norwood has listed the "10 plagues" which the charity has to deal with - discrimination, exclusion, financial hardship, family breakdown, unemployment, addiction, bullying, self-harm, mental health, and loss and bereavement.

The list is part of the charity's Pesach appeal, which highlights the scope of its services for almost 7,000 clients. This includes a significant level of social work with children, which, owing to confidentiality, "remains invisible even though it's just as vital as the services that we can shout about".

Putting a price on charity, Norwood says that £50 would fund an art therapy session to help a young victim of bullying. A £100 donation would provide a benefits adviser for someone on limited income, and £1,000 would pay for occupational therapy for a child with learning disabilities.

Adele Breslauer, director of fundraising and marketing, said that "Norwood supports almost 1,000 children and their families through some very difficult challenges, including family breakdown, financial hardship and mental ill health.

"This vitally important work is funded entirely by donations and costs more than £2.6 million across our three children and family centres.

"Because of the nature of social work and children's safeguarding, much of what we do must be kept confidential. We wanted our appeal to demonstrate the breadth of society's problems that we deal with in our community."
