Claire Simon will bring over 30 years' teaching experience to the headship of Bury and Whitefield Jewish Primary School, which she takes up in September.
Mrs Simon, 56, is currently assistant head at Accrington Academy, where she teaches maths and is in charge of the transition from primary school programme. She also chairs its PTA.
"I want more parents to be aware of what a really good school Bury and Whitefield Jewish Primary is," she said. "I want to make it the hub of the community. I will ensure that every child, every teacher and every parent matters."
She plans to extend community involvement, pointing out: "At the moment, the children visit places such as Heathlands and the Nicky Alliance Day Centre. I would like to see people from these homes visit us and see what a great school it is."
Governors' chair Rabbi Avrohom Jaffe was "impressed by her knowledge of the running of a school and her interpersonal skills. She came over as totally dedicated to ensuring the success of the school."
Bury and Whitefield has 160 pupils. Most go on to King David High, others to Withington Girls', Manchester High and Bury Grammar.
