A new charity is in the pipeline to aid those in financial straits.
The venture is an offshoot of The Clubhouse, the Golders Green-based organisation set up to help troubled young people from the strictly Orthodox community.
For some time, The Clubhouse has operated a money advisory service offering debt counselling beyond its immediate clientele.
Now Mark Fabian, who runs the service, says plans are under way to establish a stand-alone charity which can meet the increasing demand for help.
The Clubhouse started the service after finding that financial pressure on families was one of the causes of the dysfunctional behaviour among some of the youngsters it was dealing with. But as word spread, requests for help came from further afield.
"People had credit problems and asked how to manage them," Mr Fabian explained. "A lot of people have been struggling with poor finances for a number of years."
The hope is that the charity will be able to distribute bursaries to families in difficulty, as well as offering advice on how to cope with financial strains.
"We are growing so much that we'd like to start a community-interest company that could generate money that could be passed back to help people," he said.
