Model JFS pupil is targeting beauty contest glory

articlemain

A JFS pupil has her eye on the Miss England crown after being shortlisted for the Miss Hertfordshire prize.

Aged 16, Amy Zwirn is the youngest of the 37 hopefuls for the Herts prize of a year's modelling contract.

The El-stree girl confessed that her mum had entered her. "I didn't even know about it until I got an email when I was at school.

"I'm quite a shy person," she said. "People have told me before that I should model, but apart from working in Hollister, I've never done anything like this."

Having got her AS Level exams out the way, she is looking forward to the big day.

But as an art student, she is more interested in designing outfits for the catwalk than modelling them herself.

"I want to work in fashion and one of the things we have to do for the final is make a dress out of recycled fabric," she said. "I'm thinking of making mine out of a binliner."

Not that Amy would mind following in the footsteps of Samantha Freedman, the Jewish student who won Miss Hertfordshire in 2007. "It would be really amazing to win," she said.

And keeping it in the family, her younger sister Lara recently signed a modelling contract.
