Chief Rabbi-elect Ephraim Mirvis has embarked on extensive consultations with rabbis and lay leaders as he draws up plans of action.
United Synagogue president Stephen Pack said, “the idea is that when he takes office, he will be able to hit the ground running”.
Rabbi Mirvis, who has maintained a low profile since leaving the pulpit at Finchley Synagogue at the end of April, will be installed at a service at St John’s Wood Synagogue on September 1.
Rabbi Baruch Davis, who chairs the Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue, said: “He is certainly engaged in a very wide process of consultation with his rabbinate prior to taking office so that he feels he represents the rabbinate among other constituencies he has to represent.”
