Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis led the tributes to the late founding head of Borehamwood’s Yavneh College, Dr Dena Coleman, at a memorial evening attended by 450 people on Sunday.

A video of pupils’ memories of Dr Coleman was also played to the audience, which included family members, local MP James Clappison and Hertsmere Mayor Councillor Paul Morris. The evening also served as the launch of the Dena Coleman Memorial Trust, which will support educational work at Yavneh and the wider Jewish community.

Current head Spencer Lewis said the event had been a moving appreciation of a “wonderful colleague”. Dr Coleman died last year, aged 60.
