Manchester welfare provider The Fed will sell its offices as part of a raft of changes as it merges with the Heathlands Care Village to create a local super charity.

The Crumpsall site, the base for 90 staff, could go on the market early in 2010. The Fed is expected to move to refurbished offices on the third floor of Heathlands’ main building. Additions for the merged charity include a respite facility for children with special needs, planned for the second half of 2010.

Mark Cunningham, director for the newly merged Federation of Jewish Services, has met Bury and Salford council officers over funding for the respite project. “There is a huge amount of work to be done, not just for funding, but over building work,” he said. “But it could ensure the future of our children’s services.”

The Fed spent £320,000 on children’s services last year against an income of £175,000. With only one-third of that income coming from statutory authorities, the hope is services like the respite facility will attract new funding streams.

Meanwhile, early responses to an online survey on the new FJS website suggest that community members are concerned at how such a large range of services will be accommodated at Heathlands. Face to face consultations with local people will start in January.
