Prestwich Hebrew Congregation members have said goodbye to Rabbi Yehoshua Landes after 10 years of service. His departure was agreed last summer and he has begun teaching at the King David High School.

With local rabbis on hand to undertake pastoral duties, the 600-member synagogue is not seeking an immediate replacement. Explained vice-president Clive Moss-Barclay: “As opposed to getting another rabbi, we want to redesign the post to deliver a shul fit for the 21st century. A committee has been reviewing the rabbinic infrastructure of our community. We plan to develop our synagogue as a community centre to make it attractive to all ages.”

It is anticipated that the position will be advertised in the summer.
