Manchester Jewish Museum has been named as the 10th best small museum in the UK by The Times. Ranked alongside the SS Great Britain, Norwich Castle and the Horniman Museum, MJM came in at number 10 out of 25 small museums from across the UK. 'The Times' credited MJM for "helping visitors learn about Jewish religious life" and "exhibitions telling the compelling individual stories of Judaism in Manchester".
The announcement comes as MJM plans a major extension with new galleries, education and event spaces. The museum's historic synagogue will also be restored. The development project is being supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund who last year awarded the museum £426,900 to progress its plans.
Museum CEO, Max Dunbar, said: "Being named in 'The Times' Top 10 is a major achievement for us and is testimony to the hard work and dedication of all our staff, trustees and volunteers. We've come a long way in recent years."
