Manchester’s first eruv could be completed within weeks.

The religious boundary has been in development for more than two years since receiving planning permission.

Although much of the route incorporates existing structures, additional fencing has been installed along the M60 Manchester ring road and parkland. A final planning dispute with a local resident over a fence on some raised land is expected to be resolved by surveyors pronouncing it an embankment steep enough to be considered a wall for halachic purposes.

Whitefield Hebrew Congregation’s Rabbi Jonathan Guttentag said the eruv would allow more young families to attend synagogue on Shabbat.

“We are now dependent on the officers of Bury Council to complete their part of the work. We hope they will schedule this after Pesach.”
