Jessie Jacobs celebrated her 103rd birthday with a tea party at Jewish Care's Raymond House, Southend, where she has lived for five years.

The former pub licensee was in a party mood as she greeted guests including her daughter Pamela Jones and Southend Mayor Councillor Gwen Horrigan.

"I'm having a lovely time - I love all music," Mrs Jacobs said as she danced and sang along to the live band. She had met Councillor Horrigan previously and the two chatted away like old friends.

"Jessie is absolutely brilliant," said Raymond House manager Jacqui Shuttleworth. She loves doing new things and has such a way with people. It is a pleasure to see her enjoying herself so much."
