Making a meal out of cookery masterclass

articlemain

Aspiring Leeds chefs cooked up a storm for Leeds Jewish Welfare Board under the expert eye of Yossi Elad from award-winning London restaurant The Palomar.

Gabby Rosenberg, Lisa Lee, Sophie Hirschstein, Noa Levine, Robert Fearnley, Jason Broch, Simon Barnett, Ben Baker and Matthew Wootliff collaborated creatively in the community centre kitchens to prepare a Mediterranean influenced three-course feast for 130 people.

The menu featured ceviche of sea bass with red onions, herbs and chilli; chicken sofrito served on white rice and a seasonal compote.

Mr Elad said his pupils were "absolute stars. They have worked hard and created beautiful food.

"They listened to what I taught them and were not afraid to ask questions."

Mr Broch said it had been an amazing experience. "When do you get the chance to work in a commercial kitchen with a top chef?"

The welfare board's young fundraising committee organised the event and guests were asked to donate what they thought the meal would cost in a restaurant.
