London Sephardim are inspired by meetings with Israeli Chief Rabbi

articlemain

On a tour hosted by the S&P Sephardi Community, the Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel, Yitzhak Yosef, visited shuls, schools and the Stamford Hill community.

The programme for the Rishon LeZion, as he is formally known, included a communal shiur at Lauderdale Road, Maida Vale, where he spoke in front of more than 200 people about a revived thirst for Torah study, .

Welcoming Rabbi Yosef, Rabbi Israel Elia described him as "a traditional man, yet not afraid to engage with the modern world". Rabbi Yosef's address in Ivrit was translated by the S&P's senior rabbi, Joseph Dweck.

Rabbi Yosef also addressed a national conference of Sephardi rabbis at Lauderdale Road and a reception for communal leaders at Bevis Marks in the City of London.

Speaking afterwards, Rabbi Dweck said the visit had been "an inspiration and a great source of strength to the entire Sephardi community in London".
