Liberal Judaism has appointed its first Midlands development worker.

Sophie Stern, 22, who takes up the full-time role, will be based at the new Midlands Centre for Liberal Judaism, which opened in September at Birmingham Progressive Synagogue's new building.

Ms Stern attended Birmingham Progressive Synagogue while a student at Birmingham University. As part of her plans to build on her links with Liberal and Progressive Jews in the Midlands she has already started a five-a-side football club and a student film club.

Ms Stern told the JC: "I am very happy to be working for Liberal Judaism in the Midlands because it enables me to give something back to a community that so warmly welcomed me during my student days."
