Leeds loses its kosher bakery, Chalutz

articlemain

The last Leeds kosher bakery, Chalutz, has closed.

In a letter to customers, father and son owners Lawrence and Howard Gorsden cited "an irreversible downturn in trade" for the demise of the Moortown business run by the family for 30 years. Thanking the Gorsdens for their contribution, Leeds Jewish Representative Council president Hilton Lorie added that "the wheels are already in motion to find a successor".

Kosher bread for the local community is still available from the Kosherie and Gourmet Foods.
