Three League of Jewish Women members have been chosen by the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service as Diamond Jubilee volunteer champion nominees.
Estelle Morris and Pat Rackind were among the volunteers recognised from London and the south.
Sheila Harris was a northern selection. There were 4,500 entries nationwide.
Ms Morris belongs to the league’s Oakwood and Winchmore Hill group and was nominated for developing a headwear service, The Way Ahead, for women who have undergone chemotherapy. Ms Rackind — a league volunteer for more than 50 years — is the Essex area leader for The Way Ahead and has been involved in other projects to help cancer patients.
Ms Harris is another long-standing member. She has volunteered for 48 years at Blackpool Citizens Advice Bureau and for 39 years at the Victoria Hospital.
The objective of the awards is to honour older people who make a difference to the lives of others.
