Seven boys aged 17-to-19 from Kisharon Day School for pupils with learning disabilities have begun a work experience project at Sainsbury's in Golders Green, introducing them to employment.

They are helping out at the store once a week. They are treated like members of the team, using the staff canteen and being invited to employees' meetings. On the shop floor, each works one-to-one with a staff member.

"This scheme helps provide the pupils with the opportunity to become valued, independent people with a sense of purpose within the community," said the school's deputy head, Gill Britto.
