JLGB's biggest summer camp in 20 years attracted 500 young people from across the UK and abroad to the Essex venue for a programme based on the theme of "imagine".

The free-thinking participants developed skills in cookery, music, arts and crafts and debating. Zip wire and kit-car racing were among the activity sessions.

Campers were also addressed by representatives of six charities, one of which will be selected as JLGB's cause of the year. The winner of a fiercely contested quiz went home with a year's supply of confectionery.

Neil Martin, the JLGB chief executive, said it had been pleasing to to see members "create and deliver social action projects, form strong international bonds and thrive in an environment of fun and adventure. I am also immensely proud of the team of young volunteer leaders who ran all the activities."
