The Jewish Leadership Council confirmed former Manchester UJIA chairman Keith Black as its new chairman on Wednesday.
Mr Black, who represents the Community Security Trust on the umbrella body for major Jewish organisations, was the sole nominee for the position.
He said he was "very proud to be taking over the chairmanship of the JLC from Jonathan Goldstein. Jonathan was a wonderful chairman who stood up for the community with bravery and determination.
"I look forward to continuing his work and to strengthening and enhancing Jewish communal life. We have many strengths yet many challenges but first and foremost we must recognise that this country remains a wonderful country for Jewish people to live whatever Jewish life they choose."
