A bridge committee supporting Jewish Care has created a Guinness world record for an annual bridge tournament by raising £1.223 million between 1997 and 2011.

And since the record was verified last week, the charity has earned a further £70,000 from the 2012 event, held at the Landmark Hotel in Marylebone on Monday and contested by around 250 players.

Money raised supports the Home to Home project, transporting Jewish Care clients to its centres for those with dementia.

Bridge committee co-chair Patsy Bloom said: “It gives me the greatest pleasure knowing that we have made a real difference to so many lives. It just goes to show what the game of bridge can achieve.”
