Jail for gang of four who targeted Golders Green

articlemain

A gang of squatters who burgled the Golders Green area of Barnet on an "industrial scale" have been sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court.

Florin Pacuretu, 21, received two years and eight months in prison; Constantin Parcuretu, 23, two years four months; Catain Mogos, 25, three years and four months; and ninteen-year-old Victor Furcila received a 14-month sentence.

All four were part of a group of squatters who were using a home at The Ridgway, Golders Green.

In August, police were called to the premises to investigate an allegation of domestic assault. During their enquiries they found large amounts of silver, jewellery and electrical goods. Further enquires revealed that the items had been taken from houses close to the address.

So many items were recovered that police organised a property RoadShow to try to find owners of the items, many of which were of religious significance to the community.

Detective Constable Simon Hunt said: "This was burglary on an industrial scale. This gang undertook a remorseless assault on the residents of Barnet and Golders Green in particular. Many of the items were taken from the homes of elderly Jewish residents and were of religious and sentimental value - the oldest victim was 97."

The next police property RoadShow is on 23 November at the Golders Green SNT Office, 161 Golders Green Road.
