The United Synagogue's longest-serving rabbi with a single community, Bushey's Meir Salasnik, will stand down next autumn after 37 years to make aliyah.
Rabbi Salasnik informed the community of his plans during a festival service, saying that he and his wife, Judy, had "built great friendships and have shared our happy, and less happy times, and have been able to bring up our four children within the warm and inclusive community that we have had the privilege of serving".
Shul chair Stephen Roston said that "this year will be one of celebration to say goodbye to the best rabbi in the US".
