The head of Anglo-Jewry's leading private Orthodox secondary school has allayed fears of a lessening in demand due to the credit crunch.
Philip Skelker said applications for Immanuel College in Bushey were “stacking up very satisfactorily for the autumn. It has been a slower process but we are recruiting well.

“However, we are seeing something unusual — Jewish children who have been attending private non-Jewish schools wanting to transfer to Immanuel in years eight and nine. If you take this into account, we are looking very healthy indeed.”

“At the moment we are not seeing any serious effects of the economic crisis,” Mr Skelker added, “and I am buoyant about the future. It is true that many people who might have sent their children to private schools have had to look elsewhere but I am pleased to say that our natural constituency has continued to give us support.”
