Idea above their stations

Jewish Leadership Council chief executive Simon Johnson and son Max did not let the train take the strain as they walked both branches of the Northern line to raise at least £3,000 split between Norwood and the Israeli Guide Dog Centre for the Blind.

They covered 29 miles over two days, finishing up at High Barnet on Monday.

"We slept like logs after 17 miles on day one," Mr Johnson said. "It was then we realised how much of a challenge this was.

"After a visit to [Norwood's] Kennedy Leigh Family Centre, the people who worked there and the people they support really stuck in my mind. I knew I wanted to raise money for the children and young adults who use their facilities. When it was time for Max's barmitzvah, we decided it was a great opportunity to give something back."
