Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt visited Leeds residential home Donisthorpe to gain an understanding of pioneering technology geared to facilitating more personalised care.

Donisthorpe is piloting a system developed by Yorkshire firm TPP allowing electronic access to residents' medical records. Mr Hunt spoke to staff of both TPP and the home, plus residents and family members.

He said that technological advancements were key to personalised healthcare. "It is great to see companies like TPP leading the way with new software which will put residents in control of their health and, crucially, which will lead to better, more responsive, joined-up care."

Donisthorpe manager Suzy Musgrave also highlighted the benefits, pointing out: "In one instance, the time to process a prescription was cut down from 24 hours to 25 minutes."

The system had "helped to streamline our processes and has saved a lot of administrative time, allowing us to spend more time with our residents".
