A pupil at Immanuel College in Bushey has achieved the top grade in the country for GCSE Photography.

Eva Lobb, 16, received 100% in her photography GCSE and was told by the school that she'd received the highest marks in the UK.

Eva told the JC: “I try to look for the beauty in normal things, and where I can, I try to capture special moments, be they sad, happy, or poignant.”

She especially enjoys playing with textures and various compositions of light.
The process, including editing in the studio, “relaxes” her and “was great in helping take my mind off the actual exams.”

It evidently did help, as she received five nines, the highest possible grades for her GCSEs, including for photography. Eva has dyslexia, and says that photography gives her “the potential to help me think outside the box, to picture things and shapes, before the picture is taken”.

On holiday in Florida, she drew inspiration from her favourite photographer, Martin Parr, when taking candid pictures of people on the beach.

She praised her school’s “great” photography department and studio, which is always open to students.

Millan Sachania, the headteacher of Immanuel, said,  “As with our A-level students, this cohort of pupils has faced enormous challenges in recent years owing to the pandemic lockdowns, and they have impressed me with their determination, resolve and unfettered potential. They have been rewarded with impressive results and deserve all our praise.”

Her “passionate and supportive” photography teachers, Mrs Jacobs and Mrs Goulde, and technician Mike, go “above and beyond to help students” and are “a proper inspiration”.

She will continue photography for A-levels next year, alongside biology and chemistry.
