Twelve friends from Stanmore and Finchley have hit the heights for Camp Simcha — which helps Jewish children with life-threatening illnesses and their families — by scaling Ben Nevis to raise £14,000.

Main organiser Mark Summerfield, along with Simon Alberga, Robert Kanerick, Marc Israel, Tim Isaacs, Yoav Kurtzbard, Anthony Clifton, Jonathan Steinberg, Richard Leigh, Miles Allen, Rob Lyons, and Ashley Harshak have been tackling similar challenges for five years.

“We are proud to be raising money for Camp Simcha,” Mr Summerfield told the JC. “We are just 12 guys who hike together annually.”

After their Scottish adventure, the intrepid dozen have set their sights overseas. “We have tackled the Lake District, the Peak District and the Brecon Beacons. But now we are looking at going abroad in 2009 — maybe the Atlas Mountains, who knows?”
