Emergency rescue workers have praised the bravery of a Hatzola medic who scaled the side of a Jewish school building to rescue a student who had plunged from scaffolding.

Nussi Burns was first on the scene at the Etz Chaim Boys’ School in Crumpsall, Manchester, last Thursday.

He climbed scaffolding without safety equipment to reach a 13-year-old boy who fell 20 feet on to a lower platform, having climbed out of a second floor window on to adjacent scaffolding.

Twenty emergency services personnel, including three ambulances, two fire crews and another response vehicle with hydraulic lift, were dispatched to the 100-pupil independent secondary school.
