Charitable funding has been a hair-raising experience for Essex estate agent Adam Capal, who donned comic wigs every day in October in aid of Onechild Ghana, which supports 14 vocational schools.

His campaign, which to date has raised more than £1,800, took him to Leyton Orient's training ground, where former West Ham skipper Kevin Nolan and some of the League 2 side's players tried on some of the giant hairpieces.

The Loughton Synagogue member was inspired by a visit to Ghana in March with his friend Jamie Belnikoff, who founded the charity.

"Seeing it for the first time, I saw how tough it is over there. There were no toilets and no showers. I played football with the children for a bit and they were wearing the same clothes they'd worn all day - and probably would wear the next day, too. The trip made me realise how lucky I am."
