Plans for the Rimon Jewish Primary School set to open in Golders Green in September were outlined to two dozen parents of prospective pupils at drop-in meetings last week.
Governors' chair Rachel Clark said some of those present were among the 150-plus on the school's mailing list. Others had been attracted through word of mouth.
"So far, we have had no negative feedback," she reported.
"We bring only positive things to the community. The interest is testimony to the demand for a new school of this type in this area."
Ms Clark was confident of filling the 28 places for the reception class. When at full capacity in 2018, the school will cater for 196 children.
Rimon is one of a number of Jewish primaries being established under the government's free school scheme. As such, it will have the flexibility not to follow the national curriculum.
Negotiations are advanced for a site at the rear of Golders Green Synagogue and the school steering group hopes to announce the key teaching appointments within the next month.
The school's name means pomegranate in Hebrew and was chosen partly because of a Talmudic reference to the seeds of the fruit representing the latent ability in every person - a good motif for Rimon's ambitions.
