'Glee' chazan to launch new Glasgow service

articlemain

Masorti Scotland is transferring its operations from the historic Garnethill Synagogue in Glasgow's West End to a scout hut in Newton Mearns.

But Masorti Scotland chair Warren Bader insists the move has nothing to do with initial difficulties at Garnethill, when some community members voiced concern that a Masorti presence might give the impression that Garnethill was no longer Orthodox.

"We're grateful to Garnethill for giving us the opportunity to base ourselves there but people just didn't want to turn out to the West End," he explained. "We had better attendance when based on the South Side and the scout hall is at the heart of the community."

The group has now also formalised its status as a registered charity and elected two chairmen - Mr Bader and Martin Levy - as well as Susan Seagal (treasurer) and Sonja Bader (secretary).

Tomorrow's service will be the first in the new premises and will feature chazan Laurence Jacobs and his wife Bebe, stars of Channel 5's Don't Stop Believing, inspired by the cult US series, Glee.
