articlemain

The German Ambassador to Britain hosted a special Chanucah party to conclude the Association of Jewish Refugees' 70th anniversary celebrations.

Georg Boomgaarden welcomed Holocaust survivors and former refugees to his London residence on Tuesday to witness the lighting of the first candle. Pinner Synagogue's Rabbi Danny Bergson led the service and sang a selection of Chanucah songs.

Dr Charlotte Knobloch, former president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and president of the Jewish Cultural Society in Munich, spoke about Jewish life in modern Germany.

AJR chairman Andrew Kaufman said: "It was a splendid afternoon and reception and we are all enormously grateful to the ambassador for his warm and generous hospitality and for joining in the celebrations for our 70th anniversary."
