Drowned out on golf demo

articlemain

Rain stopped play - and protests - at the annual JNF Scotland pro-am golf tournament at Bonnyton in Glasgow on Tuesday.

There was an early tee-off time for the 120 amateurs and 40 professionals, all hoping that the weather would ease. But by lunchtime, it was clear that the greens and fairways were not just soaked, but flooded and the event and prize-giving was cancelled for the first time in 25 years.

Kept at a distance by police, a small group of protesters from the Scottish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign were restricted to some shouted comments before the abandonment.

Organiser Delia Berkley said: "Everything was perfect except for the weather. It was disappointing but it can't be helped. JNF Scotland will still benefit from funds raised, although we are offering refunds to those who wish to take them up."
