Media boss and Norwood president Richard Desmond had advice for budding entrepreneurs when addressing a Young Norwood evening at the London Film Museum in Covent Garden.

In conversation with broadcaster Tania Bryer, Mr Desmond said: “The key is to know what you want. You generally know what you are good at and what you enjoy. If there is one piece of advice I wish I had been given when I was young, it would be not to be so trusting.”

He also spoke about how circulation of OK! magazine had been built up by coverage of Princess Diana and the Beckhams. “I saw how Posh and Becks could become the celebrity king and queen of Britain. It was my idea to put them on thrones on their wedding day. That issue sold several million copies.”

Many of the audience of 175 young professionals were from the media world. Including the proceeds from a raffle, with prizes such as an iPad and a cap autographed by Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, the event raised £20,000.
