Culture Minister Ed Vaizey was among the speakers at the Holocaust Educational Trust’s annual Lord Merlyn-Rees memorial lecture, held on Monday at the House of Commons.
Referring to the Holocaust Commission, announced by David Cameron at last year’s annual HET dinner, Mr Vaizey said: “People still deny that the Holocaust took place. Genocides can still happen. I am convinced that we need this commission and it is right that the HET is so integrally involved.”
The lecture was delivered by Thomas Harding, author of Hanns and Rudolf: The German Jew and the Hunt for the Kommandant of Auschwitz, based on the story of Mr Harding’s Nazi-hunting great uncle. BBC broadcaster Martha Kearney was among the 250 guests.
