The Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign protested outside the Dublin hotel where the Israel Embassy hosted an Independence Day party for diplomats, Irish government officials and Jewish community members on Tuesday. The demonstration passed off peacefully and there were no arrests.
Inside, the 300 guests were entertained by comedian Yisroel Campbell. The previous evening, Dublin Hebrew Congregation staged an Israeli themed programme at the Samuel Taca Hall.
A flight-based Israel Independence Day attracted 150 "passengers" to Newcastle's Marion Abrahams Hall. Guests went through check-in and were issued boarding cards before taking their seats. Food was served on airline-style platters.
There were contributions from Rabbi Dovid Lewis, Israeli-born Yafit Gould and local Jewish Lads' and Girls' Brigade members. The Newcastle Jewish Players performed sketches written by Alan Cahill.
The evening was organised by the Representative Council of North East Jewry, whose co-president Brian Mark welcomed guests. Dorothy Sadlik thanked event helpers, particularly Joe Gellert who was responsible for the airline "windows" dotted around the venue.
Local singers Elan Revivo and Shoshana Burns were among the entertainers at the Southend celebration, attended by more than 120 people from across the community. Rebecca Barnett and other youth leaders and former Israeli soldier Elan Reviso featured in the Yom Hazikaron service. A raffle raised in excess of £1,000 for Israeli war disabled.
Sixty Reading Hebrew Congregation members marked the day with a Wizo-catered Israeli buffet and dancing in the Herman Gollancz Hall. Memorial candles were lit by 11-year-old Tal Kalati, whose father Ilan carried the Israeli flag into the synagogue.
One hundred people were at the Harold Greene Hall for the Cardiff event, organised by the Israel Information Centre and chaired by the Welsh honorary consul to Israel, Philip Kaye. The celebrations kicked off with a dance performed by the "children" of the community - average age 60.
Another three-figure crowd supported the Bournemouth event at the Menorah Suite of the local Hebrew Congregation, where the programme included an Israel picture quiz, online messages and songs from Larry Navon.
Jonathan Kaye, Ruth and Lou Markham and Audrey and Alan Kneller were the organisers of the evening.
At Sheffield's Kingfield Synagogue, 60 people tucked into an Israeli buffet dinner and heard readings about Israel past and present.
Portsmouth celebrated with a tea at the synagogue, where the JNF's Harvey Bratt spoke about the fund's projects in Israel.
In Nottingham, 70-plus people attended an evening of Israeli food, dancing and klezmer music organised by the East Midlands Jewish Representative Council.
