Crouch End is welcomed into the Liberal party

articlemain

Crouch End Liberal Jewish Chavurah has formally affiliated to Liberal Judaism.

The move was approved unanimously at a meeting at the Liberal Judaism headquarters in London's West End.

Started two years by a group of like-minded friends meeting for Shabbat services and educational events, the chavurah has been assisted by Rabbi Rebecca Qassim Birk, who lives in the area.

Having gathered momentum and scale - with 120 members and a busy cheder - congregants felt they would benefit from the services and support provided by Liberal Judaism.

Crouch End is within the borough of Haringey. Reflecting a thriving local arts scene, there are a number of musicians among the congregation. A cross-communal Jewish primary school is set to open in Haringey in 2011.

Liberal Judaism chief executive Rabbi Danny Rich co-led Crouch End's High Holy Day services with Rabbi Birk. He was delighted to have on board "a very young community", one "different in style to our existing constituents. We look forward to teaching them some things and learning other things from them."
