In a new departure, potential pupils of the cross-communal Jewish Community Secondary School due to open in Barnet in September 2010 are being sent a mini-prospectus.
The booklet-style guide assures children that JCoSS will not be scary because “everybody will be new, even the teachers. You’ll be there from the beginning, helping to shape the school.”
JCoSS head Jeremy Stowe-Lindner said the move was recognition that “young people as much as their parents are involved in the decision as to which secondary school they go to. JCoSS students will have inquiring minds and so will want to engage in that decision from a position of knowledge.”
Students visiting the JCoSS kids website — www.jcoss.org/kids — will also be able to take a five minute virtual tour around the JCoSS premises.
The school has received more than 2,300 “registrations of interest” for places over a range of years. The first year’s intake will be 180.
