A global search for the inaugur-al head of the Jewish Community Secondary School has ended with an appointment close to home.
Jeremy Stowe-Lindner, 35, has been chosen by the JCoSS governors to preside over the cross-communal school which opens in Barnet in September 2010. He is deputy head at Swakeleys Secondary School in Hillingdon but previously served two Barnet schools with a significant Jewish intake — Copthall and Mill Hill County. He has also worked with autistic children at a special school.
Swakeleys has been recognised as one of London’s most improved schools and Mr Stowe-Lindner’s responsibilities there extend to religious education teaching.
The Hendon Synagogue member is excited by his new challenge. “JCoSS is an incredible project and, I believe, central to the continuing vibrancy of the UK’s Jewish community. But to achieve its goals, it must first offer a quality of education second to none with the very highest standard of academic results.”
Governors’ vice-chair Mike Grabiner, who led the recruitment process, said Mr Stowe-Lindner shared the governors’ vision “of quality schooling and excellence for all — and more importantly, has the skills and experience to deliver it”.
In addition, his involvement in UJIA projects had given him an appreciation of working in a cross-communal environment.
