Six Leeds women are celebrating the raising of £250,000 for the Macmillan cancer charity.

Set up in 1997, the North Leeds Macmillan Committee reached the landmark with the £20,000 earned from its contribution to Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. One-hundred supporters attended the Leeds event, held at the home of Liz and Howard Cohen.

Committee founder Rosalind Bickler was inspired by seeing at first hand the help Macmillan provided when a close friend was diagnosed with cancer. Macmillan has recognised her leadership skills with a special award.
“We have found a winning formula because we only ask people once a year,” Mrs Bickler, 73, explained. “That could be why their donations are so generous.”

Macmillan’s Maureen Rutter made a presentation to committee secretary Jennifer Schiller recognising 12 years of service.

Money from the latest event will support the work of Macmillan nurses with those with head, neck, mouth and larynx cancer.
