The reunion offered “a great opportunity for alumni of the school to network professionally and, of course, reminisce about our schooldays. The power of the City of London School network is strong in Israel and includes us helping one another, and indeed current students with internships and placements.”
He had just hired an ex-City of London pupil for a post with his company. “I know the type of person they are.”
Mr Bird said he was delighted to be attending the reunion. “It will be my first visit to the country and I am looking forward to it enormously.
“Israel has the largest community of City of London School alumni outside of the UK and was first on my list of international visits to meet and engage with ‘old citizens’.
“I am very grateful to our alumni who have worked so hard to make this event happen and look forward to meeting as many of them as possible and updating attendees on news from City of London School.”
A school representative told the JC that “wherever there are pockets of alumni, we encourage them to get together”.
City of London claims to have the largest Jewish society membership of any UK school and a number of its 2019 leavers are spending a gap year in Israel .
