Students at the William Ellis School in Camden heard the story of Freda Wineman, who survived death camps including Auschwitz-Birkenau and Bergen-Belsen, at an HMD assembly on Tuesday.
The assembly also involved Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis and Holborn and St Pancras MP and former Director of Public Prosecutions Sir Keir Starmer.
“Listening to Freda Wineman’s testimony, one cannot help but be seized by an overwhelming sense of responsibility to protect her legacy," Rabbi Mirvis said. "As the Holocaust drifts further away into the annals of history, it is more important than ever for us to work together with our schools to learn timeless lessons from it.”
Sir Keir said that having heard about "the most appalling event in the history of mankind", he hoped pupils "will remember just one thing they have heard from Freda today and will consider it in their own actions”.
The assembly was organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust.
